Music Workshops

+1. Old-Time Fiddle [Blake Hanson] - (hands-on)
Learn some fiddle techniques that make a tune sound old-timey.

+2. The Life and Times and Music of Turlough O'Carolyn [Maureen & Charlie Mooney] - (Celtic Harp & Tin Whistle)
Maureen & Charlie will discuss the origins of the Irish harp, and the role of the harper in Irish history. The life and times of O'Carolan, the greatest Irish harper, will be addressed, with emphasis placed on his music. Examples will be given of a selection of his tunes. They will also touch on the music of other well-known Irish harpers.

+3. 5-String Banjo Accompaniment Styles [Bernie Stolls] - (hands-on)
Bernie has been playing the 5-string banjo for over 50 years. His banjo style draws heavily on the playing of Pete & Peggy Seeger. He'll share some of his techniques used in accompanying & arranging traditional folk songs.

+4. Fiddlers - Scrape Your Bow Better [Elinor Horvath] - (hands-on)
When my daughter got her first violin, she asked, "Am I going to get a scraper, too?" This workshop will be on bow use, how to get a bigger better sound without hurting oneself, and how to use your bow to produce a bigger sound.

+5. Arranging Music for Contradancing [Larry Moser]
Therešs more to it than just playing the tunes. Learn how to make the melody accompaniment exciting & vibrant.
